Communities interested in learning more about how they might address quality of life opportunities are invited to a regional workshop to learn how other communities have achieved similar goals.
“From Concept to Construction: Using Planning and Plants to Make Your Community More Vibrant” is set for 4 – 6 p.m. Wednesday, May 11, at the Community Library in DeWitt.

Case studies will be presented from towns such as Mapleton in western Iowa and Osage in the northern Iowa that have participated in programs such as Iowa’s Living Roadways Visioning process and have received funding assistance through Trees Forever.

“This is a great opportunity to learn about community successes and how challenges faced by communities were overcome,” said Patty Reisinger, field coordinator for Trees Forever. She and Emily Swihart, also with Trees Forever, will lead the workshop. Information about native plants and the many benefits they provide will also be covered in this workshop.

Community leaders, city staff and others are invited to share their successes and challenges and hear how other communities achieved their projects. Information about grants and the latest resources from Trees Forever will also be available. Sponsors are the Iowa Department of Transportation, Iowa State University Extension and Outreach, the Federal Highway Administration, Iowa Living Roadway Trust Fund and Trees Forever members.
