Fulton Dutch Days
The first weekend in May the residents of Fulton gather celebrate their Dutch heritage. The first permanent Dutch settler arrived at what was to become the City of Fulton in 1835. It has never been explained why so many Holland immigrants were attracted to this small Midwestern area; despite that they continued to arrive and by 1891, 198 families called Fulton home. In 1974 the Community Christian School Auxiliary organized the first authentic Dutch Dinner.
Since 1974 the festival has grown and evolved. It now encompasses two full days of celebration! For those who would like to learn more about the culture there are films and slides on Holland, Dutch Folk Art, and a style show of traditional Dutch clothes. Some who attend are here for the food! You can attend the traditional Dutch dinner on Friday evening, try a fresh pastry on Saturday morning or enjoy one of the many food vendors that travel from all over the region to participate. You can also spend quality time looking through the more than 100 Arts & Crafts vendors.
You can’t miss the entertainment! Klompen dancers appear in the streets to show you how to folk dance in their traditional wooden shoes. You can even pick up a pair of custom made wooden shoes for yourself! The excitement starts to gather in the afternoon when The Burgomaster, our Mayor for you non-Dutch speakers, and Town Crier inspect the streets to see if they are ready and clean enough. The street sweepers come through and water and brooms fly down the street to prepare for the parade. During the parade you will see authentic Dutch costumers, bands, floats and many other entertaining units!
Don’t hurry off – for the first time this year we will be having an outdoor band following the parade and extended hours for our food, arts & crafts vendors!

Cost: $2 adults and $1 children
A free shuttle service to Heritage Canyon will be available on Saturday, May 6, from 10am to 4pm. The shuttle will run continuously from Fulton City Hall (415 11th Avenue) to Heritage Canyon. The last pick up will be at 4pm from Heritage Canyon.
