February Miller Program to Share Bicycling in Europe

Event Details

The Volunteer Millers at de Immigrant windmill in Fulton, Illinois will host their monthly program on Monday, February 27 at 6:00pm.  The event will be held at the Windmill Cultural Center at 111 – 10th Avenue in downtown Fulton, across from the authentic Dutch windmill.  These programs are supported by a grant from the D.S. Flikkema Foundation.

“Cycling the Rhine River from Basel to Krimpen” will be presented by Russ and Linda Grimm.  The Grimms grew up in the Clinton area but now reside in Cedar Falls, Iowa.  Russ was a juvenile probation officer for 25 years and then entered private practice as a family therapist.  Linda was a substitute teacher and then an adjunct instructor in the theatre department at UNI.  Both, now retired, are enjoying family and continue to travel, hike, and bike in both the U.S. and Europe. Primarily, they have spent time exploring our National Parks; plus, local trails as well as trails in Minnesota and Wisconsin.  Their cycling itineraries include Erie Canal in New York, Mickelson Trail in South Dakota, Coeur d’ Alene Trail in Idaho and Hiawatha Trail in Montana.  Russ has cycled RAGBRAI ten times.

In 2014 Linda and Russ cycled throughout the Netherlands and in 2016 they cycled along the Rhine River; each trip recording more than 700 miles.

Their program will center on their experiences along the Rhine River.  Discussion will include the preparation involving transporting of bicycles, choosing the route, booking accommodations, and lite packing.  Russ and Linda will share their stories, unexpected events, and speak about the wonderful people and incredible scenery on their tour.
