CPD investigating 2 reports of shots fired

Clinton Police have issued reports on two incidents involving gunshots being fired. ‘Read more’ for the details.
In the first report-the Clinton Police were dispatched to the 200 block of 19th Place on a call about a robbery with shots fired.
Officers were met be two individuals who said they arrived at the residence and were confronted by two perpetrators displaying weapons. The two individuals told police they were forced into the home where the two perpetrators were searching the house. While the suspects were searching the house, one of the individuals retrieved a firearm, and shots were exchanged between the individual and one of the perpetrators. The individuals ran from the house and saw the two perpetrators leave the house and enter a dark colored vehicle.
At about the same time as the dispatch to 19th Place, Police were also contacted by Mercy North Emergency Department that they had a gunshot victim at the hospital. That victim was identified as one of the perpetrators from the 19th Place incident. That person was airlifted to University Hospital in Iowa City in critical but stable condition.

The second incident involving gunshots occurred today. Officers were called to the 1100 block of South 12th Street on a report of shots being fired. A witness told police that two people were standing outside a vehicle and as they left a gunshot was heard. The witness said he went to the neighbor’s residence and observed what was believed to be a bullet hole in the house. The resident of the home was not injured.
Police say they it is unknown if this incident is related to the previous incident on 19th Place

Both cases remain under investigation. Police ask that anyone with information about either incident call the Department at 563-243-1457.
