WASTEWATER DISCHARGE IN CLINTON

The city of Clinton is discharging untreated wastewater after a repair to a force main in the 800 block of Roosevelt Street failed today. ‘Read more’ for the DNR statement on the situation.

The city began discharging an estimated 2,000 gallons per minute about 12:30 p.m., but repairs should be completed this afternoon.

The city is hauling the wastewater for treatment, however trucks cannot keep up with the flow levels. The remainder of the wastewater is flowing directly to the main channel of the Mississippi River from the 25th Avenue pumping station.

Clinton has a combined sanitary and storm water sewer system, so the wastewater is flowing underground. No wastewater is reaching the ground surface.

The DNR will continue to monitor the situation.
