– Clinton County Auditor Eric Van Lancker is reminding candidates for the November 3, 2015, City Election that they must now file with the County Auditor’s Office instead of with their city clerk as a result of a recent legislative change.

Clinton County Elections Commissioner Eric Van Lancker said there was a change in filing practice for the election approved during the recent legislative session. He says all nomination petitions must be filed with the County Auditor’s Office.
Previously a candidate could file the petitions the City Hall in their community.

Van Lancker said he has been in contact with all the city clerks in Clinton County and has also spoken to many candidates about the change. He says they are trying to make people aware of the change. The Elections Commission said the office has already seen some confusion on the rule and they are trying to address the issue as soon as they can.
