Whittier Principal Brian Kenney says the school was honored for consistently high achieving school.
He says the award shows Whittier is among the top 5 percent in Iowa and top 15 percent of the country. He called it the “highest level of distinction from the federal government.”

Kenney says the work started a year ago when the school was nominated and the staff has been working on the paperwork since that time. He says they were ‘cautiously optimistic.’ When the official word came out the staff was excited and credited them for their hard work.

Kenney said educators don’t always ‘toot their own horn.’ and this award is big deal. Kenney said educators work hard and the job is rewarding but don’t always seek recognition. He says says now is the ‘time to pat yourself on the back and tell your neighbors Whittier is an amazing school.’ Kenney says it’s more than a recognition of Whittier but also the Clinton School District and community.

The Iowa other schools chosen are Urbandale’s Webster Elementary School, Grinnell’s Davis Elementary School, Holstein’s Ridge View High School, Sioux City’s Sunnyside Elementary School
