September was warmer and wetter than normal

September 2015 will be in the records as the third warmest September on record for the Clinton area since 1879. ‘Read more’ for the local details.
Official weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was just over 70 degrees (70.3) – which was about five degrees (5.3) above average.
The two warmer Septembers were 1978 (70.5) and 1931 (71.1).
Blaess says there were five days with 90 or above temperatures in the month and the normal is one. Over the June through August period Blaess pointed out there were seven days of 90 or above temperatures.
He added that the average low temperature was about 60 and that was the warmest average low for September.

Blaess says the precipitation of 5.46 inches was 2.51 inches above the normal for the month.
The Clinton area weather observer said there has already been more precipitation through the first nine months of the year than normally is recorded for the year.
He says the precipitation total is 35.01inches through the first 9 months and  that is 7.14 inches above the normal through September.
He says that total is already above the average for the entire twelve months of 34.25 inches,.

For October, Blaess says there is an average of 2.44 inches of precipitation and that includes an average of one-tenth of an inch of snow.
The average high for October 1st is 70 and the low is 47 and those drop to averages of 57 and 38 by October 31st.
