YOU HAVE ONE MORE WAY TO KEEP UP WITH ANNOUNCEMENTS FROM THE CITY OF CLINTON.

A new service to text you various alerts on your mobile phone is being started.
City Administrator Jessica Kinser says it enables more one-way communication with residents.

Kinser says they are still working on a policy to use it, but announcements about delays in garbage pickup would be one example.  She said the new calendar parking based on a snow event was the ‘big thing that brought this to light that we needed a new way to communicate with people quicker.”

Kinser says the cost for the city is $1,145 dollars for the first year with a slight increase for the second year. The City Administrator says “if we can better communication with everybody for a thousand dollars that’s a win for everybody.”

Kinser says the new text service is something additional and does not replace other methods of communication with the public including the local media including KROS RADIO.

Kinser says changes in garbage pickup during Thanksgiving week will likely be first test of the new system.

To sign up text CLINTON5 TO 36000 and then reply ‘Y’ for Yes to opt in to the service.

Standard text message rates apply.

The service can be stopped at any time by texting STOP to 36000.
