County Board considers the budget for next year and cuts elected officials recommended salary increase

There were no comments made (Tuesday) at a public hearing on the Clinton County budget. Budget Director Lynn Kirchoff says with the city of Clinton paying back part of the loan for the rail park there was a drop in the debt service rate plus a drop in the mental health rate helped drop the tax rate by about 20 cents.

Residents in the rural areas of the Clinton would pay a tax rate of $10.15 cents per thousand dollar valuation and those living in a city the rate would be $7.19 cents.
Kirchoff told the Board there would be a fund balance of 200-thousand dollars. She said that could be used to help cover any reduction that could be made due to the appeal of A-D-M to lower property values on a couple of their properties.

The Supervisors will consider formal approval of the budget at their meeting next week.

In another separate action the board approved salary increases for elected officials that cut the recommendation form the Compensation Board.
The proposal was an increase that is one-third of what the panel recommended.
The Supervisors salary remained frozen with no increase.
The increase included about $4,400 to the County Attorney to a salary of just under $110,000 to around $2,000 increase for other elected officials.
