Warmer and wetter than usual September

September 2016 will be in among the warmest Septembers in Clinton weather records.

Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says overall average temperature was nearly 70 (69.9) degrees.  That is about five (4.8) degrees above the historical average of about 65 (65.1) degrees.  Blaess says that makes the month the 5th warmest in records to 1879 in Clinton for September.

The highest temperature during the month was on September 6th when it was 91 and lowest was 48 on the 27th.

Blaess says the precipitation for the month was 4.67-inches.  That is 1.72 inches above the average of 2.95 inches.

The weather observer added that most of the rain came in one 24 hour period on the 7th and 8th   Blaess says during that period there was 3.66 inches.

He added that was the most in a 24 hour period in September since 1961 when there was six inches of rain.  It was also be he 5th highest total in a September 24 hour period in records to 1879.

For the year-to-date, Blaess says there has been 35.56 inches of precipitation.  That is above the average of 27.87 inches for the first nine months and is two inches above the average total for the year.

For October, Blaess says there is an average of 2.44 inches  of precipitation, which includes one-tenth of an inch of snow.

Temperatures fall from an average high 70 and low of 47 on October 1st to averages of 57 and 38 by the 31st.
