Clinton Police issue parking rules for the Mardi Gras Parade on Monday

The annual Mardi Gras parade will be Monday evening.  It starts at 6 P-M. Clinton Police have issued details about parking along the parade route and stress safety during the parade.

The Police Department reports route of the parade will cause local streets to close temporarily while the event is in progress.   They advise you arrive early for the parade and plan other travel accordingly to avoid being delayed during the parade.

The motorized units in the parade will start at 6:00 p.m. at 25th Avenue North and North 3rd Street going south to Main Avenue.  The motorized units will continue east on Main Avenue to Second Street, and then south on Second Street.

Marching bands and other walking units will join the motorized units at the Clinton County Courthouse on Second Street at 7th Avenue North and the parade will continue south on 2nd St to 5th Avenue South.  The best viewing locations are on 2nd Street between 6th Avenue North and 5th Avenue South.  Arrive early and please do not park on the parade route.

On-street parking for the parade will be prohibited from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. along the route.  That includes the 200 block of 5th Avenue South (Handicap parking only-with properly placarded vehicle) – 300 and 400 blocks of So. 3rd Street – 200 blocks of 6th Avenue North and 7th Avenue North – 300 block of 25th Avenue North and the three most easterly lanes of the Clinton Parking lot.

Vehicles parked along the parade route in violation may be subject to ticketing and towing.

Additionally, for the safety of the kids along the parade route, the police department is reminding all people riding floats and other vehicles to not throw candy or other items from the floats or vehicles into the crowds standing along the parade route.  If you wish to pass out candy or other items, please pass them out on foot, walking with your unit.

Community wide Trick Or Treat in Clinton, Camanche and Fulton will be Sunday from 6 to 8 Sunday evening and in DeWitt on Sunday from 5:30 to 7:30.
