The Whiteside County Sheriff is issuing a warning about scam that is being reported in the area. Learn more about the alert here.
Sheriff Kelly Wilhelmi says in this telephone scam the caller is telling you they are from I-R-S and they are or have audited you taxes. The caller tells you that you will be arrested if you don’t send an amount of money. He called this a high pressure scam.
Wilhelmi reminds people that they should never give their bank information or social security information to anyone over the phone. The Whiteside County Sheriff says if you receive a call of this nature you should hang up and call your local law enforcement agency.
