Whiteside County Sheriff’s Deputy fires gun during pursuit

A Whiteside County Deputy is on administrative leave while an investigation is conducted into an incident where the office discharged his duty weapon during a pursuit through Whiteside County. The process is standard policy during the investigation which will be conducted by the Illinois State Police.

A statement from the Whiteside County Sheriff’s Department states that Sterling Police initiated by pursuit which was later ended after ‘stop sticks’ were deployed on the road.
The statement went on that after narrowly avoiding being run by the vehicle the deputy fired his gun at the suspect vehicle. According the Sheriff’s Department there were statements from the occupants confirming that the drive said – quote I’m going to have hit this guy”

The three suspects in the vehicle fled after being stop and were arrested. A handgun was located in the area where the drive fled and he acknowledged he disposed of the handgun which had been found.
Other media reports identify the three who fled the scene as 24 year old Andre Peat – 27 year old Robert Patterson and 26 year old Lavelle Sykes.
Peat’s charges include unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, obstructing/resisting a peace officer, and numerous traffic violations. He also had outstanding arrest warrants from Lee County and Ogle County.
Patterson and Sykes were charged with obstructing/resisting a peace officer. Additionally, Patterson had an outstanding arrest warrant out of Lee County.
