Off-duty firefighter and a citizen help in putting out fire at a Clinton Home

An off-duty fire fighter and a citizen tried to alert a home owner to a fire and then extinguished the fire.
The Clinton Fire Department was called to 2335 North 7th Street yesterday (Wednesday) afternoon for a structure fire.

Off duty fire fighter Kurt VanDellen and another citizen spotted the burning building and went to the home and tried to alert the resident. VanDellen entered the house and found no one at home. He used a kitchen pan and water from the sink to put out the fire while the unknown civilian used an outdoor rug to help extinguish the flames. The fire was out by the time crews arrived. The on-scene crews did check for any extension of the fire into the home and put out any hot-spots. The fire was contained to the back exterior near the rear entrance of the home.

An investigation into the fire is still in progress.

The Fulton Fire Department responded under the automatic aid agreement plus the Clinton Police Department assisted at the scene.
