Learn more about how the Police Department functions

The Clinton Police Department and Clinton Community College will again partner to offer the Citizen Police Academy (CPA) from February 5 – April 30, 2015.

According to Clinton Police Chief Brian Guy, “With the generous support of Clinton Community College, Clinton National Bank, and Judge David H. and the late Kathleen R. Sivright, we are able to offer the 20th Citizen Police Academy.”

The goal of the CPA is to develop positive relations, and to create better understanding and communications between the citizens of Clinton, Iowa, and their police department through education about police practices and services. Participants will gain an appreciation of the problems and challenges facing law enforcement, and have an opportunity to offer comments and ideas regarding solutions.

A few of the topics presented include:

Patrol procedures

Dignitary protection

Operating While Intoxicated (OWI)

Communications

Street crime and narcotics

Jail tour

Evidence

Special investigations

Court procedures

Individuals who apply for CPA must be at least 18 years-of-age and reside, or work in the City of Clinton. Applicants will also be subject to a background check.

Those wishing to attend CPA may pick up an application at the Clinton Police Department or Clinton Community College. For further information contact the Clinton Police Department at 563-243-1455, or Clinton Community College at 563-244-7001.
