Unusually cold to start March

There have been no record lows set in the first few days of March, but Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says the sub-zero temperatures are unusual.

He says the low on March 5th was 5-below zero and the low on March 6th was one-below zero. He says that is the first time since 1960 there have been two subzero days in the month. The weather observer added that in March 1960 there were 5 days with zero or below temperatures and that’s the most for a March.

Blaess said that Friday will be the 23rd day in a row with the below average temperatures, but that string may be broken on Saturday.

The average high for March 6th is 44 and average low is 26.
