August below normal for rain and normal for temps

It was a dry start for August with some rain in the last couple of weeks and temperatures finished about normal.

July 5th coolest in local weather records while precipitation was near normal

Last month tied for the 5th coolest July in Clinton weather records since 1879.  Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the overall temperature was about 70-degrees, which he says is a little more than four degrees below the normal.

Tuesday was the first 90 degree day of the year

Tuesday was the first time the temperature has reached 90 degrees this year. Official Clinton area weather observer Jim Blaess says July 22nd is the third latest date for recording a 90 degree or higher temperature.  He says the other later dates were July 26 1951 and August 4th in 2008.

We tied the record low for this date

Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the temperature dropped to 51 degrees and that tied the record low for July 16th first set in 1930 and tied in 1945

With highs in the 70’s predicted this week, Blaess says the normal high temperature for mid-July is in the
mid-80’s.
The weather observer also pointed out that one year ago on the 16th was the start of four days in a row of temperatures in the 90’s with 91 on 16th and 94 on the 17th – 18th and 19th.

Is there a chance for record low tonight?

What will it take to be a record low overnight in the Clinton area – official weather observer Jim Blaess says the record for July 16th is 51 that was set in 1930 and tied in 1945.

The record low for today – July 15th is 48 that was set in 1930 and tied in 1967. It was 52 this morning for the official low.

Blaess says the normal high for this time of year is in the mid-80’s.
