Local hospital visitation policy changed

(Clinton) -- Restrictions put in place with H1N1 concerns are lifted

Mercy Medical Center announced that the restricted visitor policy put in place last fall due to increased H1N1 activity, has now been lifted. The restricted policy had prohibited visitors younger than 18 to visit hospital patients in an effort to limit the spread of the flu virus.

Visitors with cold or flu - like symptoms, or have recently had symptoms of a cold or flu, are asked to continue to refrain from visiting patients at Mercy Medical Center until they are symptom free.

Many hospitals nationwide implemented restricted visitor policies during the earlier flu outbreak. Jeff Sander Welzien, Infection Prevention Coordinator for Mercy Medical Center, says there has been decreased influenza activity locally and at the state level. He added that “If we begin to see the influenza activity increase, we may need to reinstate the visitor restrictions, but at this time the activity level remains low in our community.”
