The occupant of house on fire in Clinton was able to escape without injury.
The Clinton Fire Department was dispatched to 905 10th Avenue South about midnight on the emergency call of the residential fire with flames and smoke showing and someone yelling for help.
When the department arrived they reported heavy smoke and fire conditions and called in additional firefighters to assist.
With an aggressive attack the fire was controlled in about 12 minutes.
The department noted that smoke detectors were present and working properly.
Firefighters remained on the scene for about five hours.
The cause of the fire was traced to accidentally discarded smoking materials. Damage is estimated at 60-thousand dollars.
The local Red Cross is assisting the occupant.
