New Census Bureau estimates show continued declines in local population

The population of Clinton, Camanche and DeWitt all dropped in the latest U-S Census Bureau estimates. ‘Read more’ for details and links to the data.


The July 2014 estimates show a decline in the cities population compared to the 2010 Census.

The new report shows the Clinton city population in July 2014 was estimated to be 26-thousand*246 and drop of 639 from the 2010 county. That’s a 2-point-4 percent drop according the census bureau. Clinton remained the 18th largest city in the state.

The Camanche population dropped by 90 from the 2010 count of 5,332 to the July 2014 estimate of 4,358. That was calculated as 2-percent decline. Camanche was the 88th largest in the 2010 census and the new estimate dropped the community to 90th largest.

The population of DeWitt dropped to 5, 253 a loss of 68 or a 1-point-3 percent decline. DeWitt remained the 71st largest community.

Earlier reports from the Census Bureau estimated a county-wide decline in population to 48,501 a decline of just over 2 percent.
