The board also approved a series of contract with various employee groups that were between 2-point-3 and 2-point-4 percent. Those groups included workers in the Transportation, Food Service, Custodians, Secretaries, non-union employees.
School Board member Eric Gettes said he will support the contracts but was disappointed the contracts did not follow the financial officer’s advice for a pay freeze.
School Board President Jim McGraw – who was involved in the negotiations – said this was the best that could be done..and the district had to sacrifice some things they wanted in the contract. He mentioned specifically some changes in insurance the administration had to give up.

The board also approved a recommendation for one-point-nine percent raises for administrative positions such as principals and supervisors.
With one board member absent-the board had a stalemate on who should be the local insurance representative. The local agency would not affect the costs in the way the insurance companies cover the district. In 2008 the District switched from the Core-Vens Agency to the A-C Root Agency. Earlier the board tied 3 to 3 on switching. The issue was brought back for reconsideration at Monday’s meeting.
In a request for proposal the 5 board members scored Core-Vens higher this time-but in a vote it was again tied 3 to 3.
On the motion to name the Core-Vens Agency board members Dana Evers, Gregg Obren and Jenny Green voted ‘no’ and a special meeting will be held June 17th. The District must name an agent of record by July 1st.
