A sewer main break on Wednesday resulted in 794,000 gallons of untreated waste water being dumped in the river.
The incident occurred in the 800 block of Roosevelt where upgrades are being made.
Waste Water Treatment Plant Supervisor Bob Millroy says they trucked another 42-thousand gallons from the site for treatment. He says the break occurred in the area where work was done to connect some pipe to existing older pipes. Milroy said the break meant the 25th Avenue North pumping station had to shut down. He said that’s where the discharge occurred.
He says repairs were completed last night.
Millroy says a report has been filed with the DNR and he says the agency indicated they did not expect to levy any penalties.
Millroy says the city engineering office and city staff will be working with the contractors on paying the cost of the repairs.
