On Tuesday, August 4th at 2139hrs the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department was notified of an armed robbery that took place at Wal Mart in Clinton Iowa. ‘Read more for the statement from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department-All local departments were notified to attempt to located the suspect vehicle.
At 2141hrs, the Sheriff’s Department received a 911 call from Milo & Beavers gas station in Savanna. The caller was the employee reporting a male subject entered the store with a knife demanding money. After a brief struggle the subject left the store on foot without getting any money.
While the Savanna Police Department and Sheriff’s deputies were responding to the scene a deputy observed a vehicle parked near Caseys in Savanna which matched the description of the suspect vehicle from Clinton. As the deputy was preparing to confront the vehicle it fled the scene and a pursuit ensued.
Sheriff’s deputies and local police departments pursued the vehicle east on Route 64 and then onto Route 52 into Ogle County. A non injury accident occurred at the intersection of Route 52 and Route 26 involving squad cars from the Carroll County Sheriff’s Department and the Lanark Police Department.
The pursuit then continued north on Route 26 and then east on Route 64. The pursuit ended near Daysville Road in Ogle County after stop sticks were deployed and the suspect vehicle collided with a Milledgeville squad car. No injuries occurred.
Aaron C. Watson, 25, of Rockford was arrested and taken to the Ogle County Jail. Ogle County authorities charged him with Aggravated Fleeing to Elude, Resisting Arrest and driving while license suspended. The second subject was a juvenile and was also taken into custody.
The case remains under investigation and charges are pending from Carroll and Clinton Counties for both subjects. The suspects are believed to have been in an earlier felony theft that occurred in Freeport.
