Clinton City Administrator Jessica Kinser is pleased to announce that Kevin Gyrion has been selected as the next Police Chief for the City of Clinton. ‘Read more’ for the complete statement on the new Police Chief.Gyrion is presently the Chief of Police in West Liberty, Iowa, where he has been for nearly a year. Prior to coming to Iowa, he spent 28 years with the City of Chicago Police Department, where he left at the rank of Lieutenant, specifically as a Watch Operations Commander allocating personnel and budget for more than 50 personnel.
“Gyrion stood out amongst the finalists as a candidate whose previous law enforcement experiences will lend itself well to the Clinton community and the changing public safety needs,” Kinser stated. “Throughout the assessment and interview processes he presented himself as a leader who is ready to take on the challenges of Clinton while working with Police Department personnel to make sure we provide the best service to the community. He was the only finalist with Police Chief experience, which was deemed valuable in the interview process.”
Gyrion is ready for the challenge ahead. “I am honored to be selected as the Clinton Police Chief. I look forward to the challenges and opportunities ahead and working with the community, City Administration, the Mayor and City Council, and the Police Department as partners in making Clinton the best community we can. I am excited to lead the Clinton Police Department and to help maintain its excellent service to the community as efficiently as possible.”
The City of Clinton’s search process began in April and resulted in 33 applicants for the position, of which
ultimately 10 were certified as eligible for the Civil Service Commission. Five candidates were ultimately
moved forward to an assessment center, which had the candidates complete multiple exercises in with a
group of Iowa Police Chiefs. The City Administrator narrowed that field to three finalists, which were
interviewed by multiple groups and individuals on August 3rd. “We had three well-qualified finalists for the
position. The position of Chief of Police is one of the most important in the City structure, and the process
utilized brought the best for the position forward.”
A resolution appointing Gyrion will be considered at the August 11, 2015, City Council meeting.
