Mayor Vetoes Railport Broker Agreement

Clinton Mayor Mark Vulich has vetoed the council’s passage of deal with a real estate broker for the Railport Industrial Park. ‘Read more’ for details & link to read the veto message

The measure was approved at the September 22nd council meeting on a 4 to3 vote and the mayor hinted at that time he may veto the resolution.
A majority of the council supported the contract with the N-A-I Ruhl Firm to market and handle land sales at the industrial park.
In his message, Vulich stated the veto does not mean he is opposed to new jobs or opposed to a broker agreement. He went on to state he believes the city, Clinton Regional Development Corporation and the Firm should engage in further discussion and due diligence before the city decides to enter in an agreement with the firm.

The mayor outlined several concerns and issues he believed should be included in the agreement that were not included (see link to full message at the bottom of the article)

Vulich concludes his veto message by stating that he believes that all parties having good faith dialogue will be able to achieve consensus.

City Legal Counsel Patrick O’Connell says the Council may choose to override it, but believes a more likely outcome is a presentation of a modified agreement which will not be vetoed.
He adds the CRDC continues to negotiate with the real estate firm and believes both the City and the CRDC will develop agreements with NAI Ruhl.
