Another DX’er hears KROS in Finland

DX’ing is the hobby of listening to distant radio stations-‘read more’ for the contact KROS just received about a long distance pickup-and the audio they heard (and can you make out what they heard)

Hello

I found this email address when searching for KROS 1340 AM contact information.

I hope your will take a minute or two and to read my message. And please then let me have your comment and verification of my reception of your signal here in Finland.

My name is Pertti Ayras and I´m a university professor at an age of 68, and just recently I became “professor emeritus” after retirement. I´m married and have two children.

My dear hobby is to listen to distant radio stations on the AM band (DXing). On the night of 20th of October I again opened my Perseus SDR receiver and managed to hear lots of radio stations from your part of the World on the AM band. One was noted on 1340 AM for a while with some phone numbers and a weather forecast by a TV station WQAD and Clinton National Bank at around 00.47 am your local time The signal disappeared quite soon.

Please check the enclosed short audioclip (it´s a bit noisy so it is suggested to listen to using earphones, if possible). Please let me also have your confirmation of my reception.

The station was heard with a communications Perseus receiver connected to a 900 m wire pointing to North-West which is the direction from Finland to you. I´m a DX listener since 1960 and have heard more than 3000 AM stations from all over the world. Most of the stations also have confirmed my reception. I hope your verification will be the next one in my collection.

I wish you and your station a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year 2016!

Best regards

Dr. Pertti Ayras

*ADDITIONAL INFORMATION INCLUDING LISTENING LOCATION: I was having a “DXPedition” to Lemmenjoki in Northernmost Finland at the beginning of October. We have there a listening headquarter with many long (1000 m or so) directional aerials to be able to catch distant AM and Shortwave stations, if the radio conditions allow this.
