December 2015 will be in the Clinton weather records as the 2nd warmest and 3rd wettest December in records to the later 1800’s. ‘Read more’ for details and highlights of 2015.
Clinton area weather observer Jim Bless says the overall temperature for December was just over 37 degrees (37.5) . He says that’s eleven degrees above the normal.
The warmest December in the records is 1884 at just over 38 degrees (38.2).
The highest reading was on the 13th when it was 61 and the lowest reading was 20 on December 18th.
The precipitation in December was 4.71 of an inch. Blaess says that’s 2.89 inches above the normal for the month. He says that makes December 2015 the 3rd wettest December on records to 1878. The top spot is December 1909 with just over six inches (6.1) of precipitation.
Blaess says the total included just over 3 inches (3.1) of a snow-sleet total which he says is below the normal of 8.7 inches.
For the twelve months, Blaess says the precipitation total is just over 49 inches (49.26) and that’s about 15 inches (15.04) above the average. That makes 2015 the third wettest year on record of 1878. The top two spots are 1973 with 5.11 inches and 2nd was 1961 with 52.07 inches of precipitation.
The Clinton area weather observer says the overall twelve month temperature was about 51 degrees. That’s about one degree above average.
For January, Blaess says the average high and low remain at 30 and 15 throughout the month. There is also an average of 9 inches of snow plus 7 days of zero or below weather.

Highlights in the weather in 2015
January 2015 started with over 12 inches of snow and 7 days of zero or below.
On February First there was just over eleven inches of snow. That that was the third most snow in a 24 hour period in a February. There was a total of 15 inches of snow and nine days of zero or below weather.
May was wetter than normal
June was the 6th wettest June with just over 9 inches of rain.
The ‘Fall’ or September through November period was the 4th warmest since 1879.
September was the 3rd warmest September since 1879 with five days of 90 or above.
November had about 6-point-7 inches of precipitation. That made the month the 2nd highest total since 1878. The 7 inch snow on the 21st was the tied for the 3rd most snow in a 24 hour period in a November. November was also the 9th warmest overall in records to 1878.
