Clinton County Auditor and Commissioner of Elections Eric Van Lancker will be seeking his third term in office. He was first elected in 2008 and re-elected in 2012. ‘Read more’ for complete statement from the candidate.
“I’m thankful to the voters of Clinton County who have placed their trust in me these past eight years and ask they continue their support in the November election,” Van Lancker said. “I enjoy growing in this job every day. My office staff and I continue to find new ways to improve county government and better serve the taxpayers in Clinton County.”
Van Lancker will host a campaign kickoff event on Thursday, February 18, at 6 p.m. at Whisk Away in DeWitt. The public is invited to attend the event.
Van Lancker has successfully administered many elections during his time in office and has worked diligently to make the election process more efficient.
Among his accomplishments was the introduction of an electronic poll book to ease voter administration at polling locations on election days. He also recently led the county in the purchase of new voting equipment to better tally votes and assist voters in filling out their ballot.
Among other duties, Van Lancker participates on the Clinton County Risk Management Committee credited with saving the county tens of thousands of dollars each year in insurance premiums. He has also worked with other county officials to help the county find efficiencies, including his work with the Recorder’s Office to share staff saving taxpayers’ dollars.
During his two terms, Van Lancker has become well respected in Iowa as an election administrator. So much so that his fellow county auditors from across the state elected him President of the Iowa State Association of County Auditors (ISACA).
“My leadership opportunities allow me to work with people of all backgrounds to get positive things done for our neighbors in Clinton County,” Van Lancker said. “The partnerships I developed with other county auditors has allowed me to gain knowledge that results in improved services and cost efficiencies for our county’s residents.”
Van Lancker is a certified state election administrator, has served on a Secretary of State Election Advisory Board and currently serves as Curriculum Chairman of the State Election Administration Training program, teaching several courses in election administration.
In addition, he served on a committees studying various election matters and took the lead in lobbying for legislation to address postmarks on absentee ballots, ensuring a properly cast ballot is counted.
He also serves on the ISACA Legislative Standing Committee and led an Iowa State Association of Counties committee to update county retention record guidelines.
Van Lancker and his wife, Tanya, have two children. The oldest, Caitlyn, is in her first year at Cornell College in Mount Vernon. The youngest, Jack, is a freshman at Clinton High School.
