Long Distance Listener

Hello Dave and KROS 1340 Radio!

My name is Kimmo and I am sending this email regarding one my hobbies, which is ”hunting” for distant radio stations here in Finland. (Read more – for more details about Kimmo and hear the audio) (We did correct him that it was Iowa)

I am 45 years old and am an entrepreneur in the elevator business. I am an active golfer in the summer and have played soccer my whole life. In the winter my main hobby is this DXing. I have had this hobby of DXing for 30 years. During that time I have heard and received responses from over 600 radio stations around the world. What makes my hobby interesting is that you never know what station will become audible at what frequency (1340AM) and from where.

I was able listen to your programme today early in the morning September 11th 2016 frequency 1340AM. 6.00 p.m MDT local time in Clinton, Idaho.

“ ..you are listening AM 13-40 KROS Clinton Idaho KROS 105.9…”

I have built a listening station in interference-free conditions in Ivalo, which is located 715 miles from here in Helsinki and 250 miles north of the Arctic Circle. That’s very far north. I control my radios and antennas remotely from my home here in Helsinki. I use four different kinds of beverage antennas for stations from different continents. South America, North America, Asia and Australia.

Now I’m hoping you can listen to a brief 30-second MP3 recording regarding the audibility of your transmission here in Ivalo, Finland. If the recording is correct, it is enough that you send a brief email or FB message, which I can put into my QSL folder along with other responses.
