Clinton County Population Loss Number Leads The State

While Iowa’s population increased from the 2010 census to the 2016 estimates-that growth was focused on a few areas.  (links to details included)

Gary Krob, coordinator of the State Data Center at the State Library of Iowa said  “While the 2016 population estimates show that Iowa’s population continues to grow, that growth is occurring in only 23 of Iowa’s 99 counties,”

Clinton County has had the largest decline in population since 2010, losing 1,807 people, while Adams County has declined at the highest rate, with a decrease of 8.3 percent of its population since 2010. Net migration losses occurred in 77 other counties, where more people moved out of the county than into it.

Those figures show the population in Clinton County was 47-thousand*309 in the 2016 estimate.  That was decline from the census in 2010 of 49-thousand, 116 or a lost of 1,807 people.

The loss came in migration out of the county.  There were more births than deaths but a large loss in migration.
