Iowa American Water LIFTS Precautionary Boil Advisory for a limited area of Clinton

Tests confirm the water continues to meet all state and federal water quality regulations-Click ‘read more’ for the company’s statement

Effective at 12 P.M. on Thursday, May 25, Iowa American is lifting the precautionary boil advisory for approximately 200 customers in Clinton. Water quality tests have confirmed that the water continues to meet all U.S. Environmental Protection Agency Safe Drinking Water Act standards and Iowa Department of Natural Resources regulations. It is no longer necessary for affected customers to boil their water before drinking or cooking.

During the boil water advisory, Iowa American Water performed a series of tests to determine if the water met regulatory drinking water standards. Samples were taken from sites in the affected area, and tests confirmed that the water meets all federal and state requirements.

The precautionary boil advisory was the result of a water main break that occurred on Wednesday, May 24 at North 2nd Street and 27th Avenue North in Clinton. In order to complete emergency repair work, a section of water main in this area needed to be temporarily shut down.

Affected customers are being notified of the precautionary boil advisory lift via the company’s automated calling system.

Originally the advisory wasn’t scheduled to be lifted until 5 PM today, however, the repairs were completed earlier than expected yesterday afternoon, so the water quality tests were able to be started sooner. The advisory is lifted effective 12 P.M. today.

Iowa American Water regrets the inconvenience this emergency water main repair work may have caused its customers, and thanks them for their cooperation and understanding.
