Fireworks complaints

Clinton Police received 264 calls for service on fireworks complaints between June 20th and July 4th according to Police Chief Kevin Gyrion.

He said they are researching to make a comparison to the numbers before the sale of fireworks became legal in Iowa.

The Clinton City Council retained the city rules that banned the use of the fireworks in the city and did NOT change that ordinance which was allowed by the new law.

Gryion said the department issued eight citation and about 30 warnings during the June 20th to July 4th period.  With 264 calls he said 167 calls were considered ‘handled by the officer’ and 67 cases were considered ‘gone on arrival and-or unable to locate.’

At Mercy Hospital, spokesman Julie Dunn said they worked with the local Emergency Medical Service to monitor any fireworks related injuries.  She said the Emergency Room at the hospital reported they had NO fireworks related injuries.

There is a period allowing the sale of fireworks and potential use from early December through early January.
