City is working with nuisance property seen in TV news story

Building and Neighborhood Services Director Jeff Chapman says a home that was the subject of a recent television news story was handled the same way any other complaint to the department.  He added BNS didn’t know the property owner was deployed until later.

He says the nuisance was founded for overgrown grass and weeds at the property.

He says after the nuisance was posted the department was contacted by a neighbor asking for more time.

In a statement issued by the city it clarified the B-N-S staff was not notified until after the notice was given, that the homeowner was deployed, and someone was taking care of the property. BNS had given extensions and has been working with the property and the neighbors to take care of the situation

The City Code states that property owners are to maintain their yards. Grass and weeds that are eight (8) inches in height or above, the City will issue a nuisance notice. All nuisance notices are given a time frame to take care of the issues, before any further action will take place.
