City effort to improve Manufacturing Drive/Bluff Boulevard not part of federal grant program

The city of Clinton was not awarded a federal grant that would have rebuilt and improved Manufacturing Drive and Bluff Boulevard through town.

The official announcement has not been made yet-but Mayor Mark Vulich said they have been notified. He said they are disappointed.

Vulich said they have learned that Maquoketa, the Des Moines area and the Sioux City area received grants in the federal program.

The U-S Department of Transportation program allocated one-point-five billion dollars in discretionary grant funding to 91 projects in 49 states and the District of Columbia.

Vulich said city officials will review the city application compared to the projects receiving funding and will likely try again.

The Clinton Mayor said the project included a complete rebuild of Manufacturing Drive and Bluff from the Highway 30 intersection to 7th Avenue North.

Vulich said the city will move ahead with some of the work without the grant funding.

The city sought 22-million dollars for the project, but Vulich said the improvements were estimated to be up to 36 million dollars with improvements the utility companies were planning as part of the project.

This was one of the topics on the F-Y-I show with Clinton Mayor Mark Vulich.  If you missed the program you can listen to the entire conversation here
