Local restaurant quietly helps area federal workers during government shutdown

A local restaurant provided a meal to federal works at the Thomson, Illinois federal prison due to the recent government shutdown.

The federal government shutdown meant the guards and others at the prison worked during the period without pay.

Owner and manager Rasterelli’s – Mike Rastrelli said the management team had the idea to provide a free meal to those who were not receiving a paycheck at the nearby prison.

He said it was great to see the young families attending the event.

Rastrelli worked with the prison and offered a pasta buffet.  He says about 100 people attended Thursday evening.

Rastrelli said the staff donated their time to help at the meal.

He added that the people attending lived in Clinton and the region.
