May 2019 will be the second wettest May in the 140 years of local weather records.
Local weather observer Jim Blaess says there has been 9.66 of an inch of rain in May. He says about eight inches of the total came in the last half of the month with 4.47 inches between Monday and Wednesday this week.
May of 1996 with 12.35 inches of rain will remain the wettest May in the Clinton weather records.
The normal precipitation of the month is 3.94 inches.
The meteorological spring of March-April and May, Blaess says will also be second wettest for that period in the records. He says during the three month period there has been 17.52 of an inch.
The meteorological spring with the most precipitation is 1973 with 20.37 of an inch.
For first five months of the year, Blaess says the total is 22.58 of an inch of precipitation. Blaess says that 10.21 of a inch above the normal of 12.31.
Blaess also mentioned that June is typically the wettest month of the year with an average of 4.6 inches of rain. But, he pointed out the past five years the precipitation has been above normal in June including last year with 6.95 of an inch.
