The Clinton Police Department conducted alcohol compliance checks on local businesses who sell alcoholic beverages on June 18 and June 26. The department periodically conducts these checks to help ensure that businesses who hold an alcoholic beverage license do not sell to minors.
“Of the 80 businesses checked, 9 were not in compliance.” According to Captain Joe Raaymakers. A business is not compliant if it sells alcohol to the underage cooperating individual. In state fiscal year 2017-18, 98% of Clinton alcohol establishments checked were compliant, compared to only 89% this last fiscal year.

Our goal is for 100% compliance. The Gateway ImpACT Coalition offers TIPS training. TIPS (Training for Intervention Procedures) is a very effective training program designed to prevent inebriation, drunk driving, and underage drinking by enhancing the “people skills” of servers, sellers, and consumers of alcohol. TIPS provides individuals with the knowledge and confidence they need to recognize underage patrons, recognize potential alcohol-related problems and intervene to prevent alcohol-related tragedies. The Gateway ImpACT Coalition, through a Community Coalition Grant funded by the Iowa Department of Public Health provided funding to local law enforcement to execute alcohol compliance checks and provide TIPS training. We are a group of your friends and neighbors who have come together to address the problems related to drug and alcohol use. The coalition is working to change the environment that encourages risky alcohol and drug use in our community. Our goal is to bring our community together to make Clinton a safe place for everyone, especially our youth.
