While the July precipitation was above normal the last significant rain was measured on July 9th.
Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says the precipitation for the month of July was 4.03 inches. He adds that’s above the normal for the month of 3.6 inch. But, Blaess says about .11 of an inch has been recorded since July 9th. Most of the July precipitation came on July 2nd when Blaess says he recorded 2.51 inches and on the 9th with 1.06 inches. Blaess says the 2.51 of an inch on July 2nd is the 17th highest 24 hour total in the month since the records started in 1878.
The Clinton area’s year to date precipitation is still above normal. Blaess says thru July the precipitation total is 29.88 inches. He says that’s 9.37 on an inch above the normal of 20.51 inches of precipitation during the first seven months of the year.
Blaess says the overall temperature for the month was above normal. He says the overall temperature was 76.4 which is above the normal of 74.9.
The lowest temperature recorded by the weather observer was 55 on July 23rd and the highest was 94 on the 20th.
Blaess says there were 3 days with 90 degrees or higher in July compared to the normal of six.
For August, Blaess says there is 4.41 inches of precipitation. He says there are normally four days with 90 degrees or higher, but there have been no 90 degree or higher readings in the past three years.
Blaess says the average high on August 1st is 84 and the low is 64. He says those fall to averages of 81 and 60 by the end of the month.
