Two traffic crashes In Clinton County Involve Fatalities (see official statements on both crashes)

At 10:00 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019, deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to a single vehicle rollover accident. This occurred at the intersection of 290th Ave and 182nd St north of DeWitt. A witness stated that the SUV had passed them at a high rate of speed and then failed to negotiate a curve. The vehicle rolled multiple times.

Deputies discovered that one of the two occupants had been ejected from the vehicle and was found lying in the ditch. The victim was transported by a medical helicopter to University of Iowa Hospitals in Iowa City. He died there around 2:00 a.m.

The accident remains under investigation. Names of the people involved are being withheld pending notification of relatives.

Deputies were assisted by Welton Fire Department, Genesis Ambulance and DeWitt Police Department.

Around 1:50 p.m. on Saturday, August 24, 2019, deputies from the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office were dispatched to an accident with injuries in the 3000 block of Hwy 67 south of Folletts. A motorcycle carrying a man and a woman failed to negotiate a curve on the highway. The motorcycle entered the ditch and both the driver and passenger were thrown from the bike and rendered unconscious. Neither person was wearing a helmet.

Both people were transported by ambulance to Quad-City area hospitals. Around 3:30 p.m., deputies were notified by the Scott County Medical Examiner’s office that the female victim had succumbed to her injuries. The male driver remains hospitalized. Names of the victims are being withheld until family members have been notified.

The accident remains under investigation. Clinton County Sheriff’s deputies were assisted by Low Moor Fire Department, Genesis Ambulance and the Iowa State Patrol.
