September was one of the wettest and warmest in Clinton weather records.

Clinton area official weather observer Jim Blaess says September 2019 will be the 4th wettest September in the records to 1878.  He says there was 9.69 inches of precipitation.  He says that’s nearly 7 inches above the normal of 2.95 inches.

September 1927 is number one for precipitation with 11.27 inches of rain and then 1961 with 11.70 and 1921 with 10.18 inches of rain make up the top three.

For the first nine months of the year, Blaess says there’s been 44.12 inches of precipitation.  The weather observer says that’s about 16 inches above the normal for the first nine months of 27.87 inches.

With the precipitation to date, Blaess says 2019 is the 15th wettest year on records to 1888 with three months to go.  1961 had the most precipitation with 52.7 inches according to Blaess.

Blaess reports September 2019 is the third warmest September in the records to 1879.  He says the overall temperature was 70.4 degrees. That compares to the average of 65.1.

The highest temperature Blaess recorded was 90 on September 12th and the lowest was 49 on the 5th.

Blaess says the warmest September was 1931 at 71.1 degrees and 1978 is second at 70.5 degrees.

Blaess says for October you can expect 2.44 inches of precipitation which includes a tenth of an inch of snow.  Temperatures on October first average 70 for high and 47 for the low.  Blaess says by the end of the month those averages drop to 57 and 38.
