Clinton County Sheriff’s Office Reports Local Phone Call Scam (see official statement)

On December 30th, 2019, the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office was informed by two different individuals about a phone scam that occurred this past weekend.

One of the individuals received a phone call from a person claiming to be Deputy Morales with the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office. Our office does not have a Deputy Morales working for this agency.

Both individuals were told there was a warrant for their arrest. The individuals realized this was a scam and hung up on the caller, as this was a ploy to get the individuals to pay the scammer with a credit card.

The Clinton County Sheriff’s Office does not conduct business in this manner.  If you receive any calls from a person claiming to be from our agency requesting you to pay them over the phone to take care of a warrant for your arrest with a credit card, it is a scam.

If anyone did provide any financial information to this scammer, contact your credit card company.  Contact your financial institution if you used your debit card and file a fraud complaint.
