County Officials Believe Home Base Iowa Incentives Are Paying Off

At least over 30 retired military veterans have moved to Clinton County over the past couple of years and Home Base Iowa incentives have been a factor.

At their recent meeting the County Supervisors approved the 15-hundred dollars closing costs for a retired veteran buying a home in the County.

Auditor Eric Van Lancker says this individual will be working at the federal prison in Thomson, Illinois

Van Lancker says since the program to attract retired military personel to move to the county has been used about 30 times since starting in 2016.  The majority have been the aid in buying a home with a few receiving assistance in coming to the county for a job interview.   Van Lancker says the expense has been about 41-thousand dollars.

Each community in the county also offers various incentives that are in addition to the county assistance in a coordinated effort to encourage veterans to move to the county.

The Home Base Iowa program is encouraged at the state level with each government determining what incentives to offer.
