River Bend School Closing Update-statement from Superintendent Darryl Hogue

River Bend Families,

Here is the plan for Monday, March 16, 2020.  All buildings will have a 10:30 late start. This late start allows teachers to prep e/home based learning materials for students so that when they come home Monday they will have a plan for the week.  Lunch will be served starting around 11:00 AM.  Students will be dismissed at the regular time on Monday afternoon with normal bus routes.

Students should regularly check their emails and Canvas.  Teachers will communicate with students via email and Canvas.  While the plan is to have most information ready for students on Monday, there may be adjustments to plans as time progresses.  Teachers and buildings may provide additional emails with instructions.  The students will receive information for e/home based learning for Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 20th.  Spring Break will continue to be on Monday, March 23rd until Friday, March 27th.  As of today, Monday, March 30th will be a non-attendance day for students.  School will resume on Tuesday, March 31st 2020.  We will closely monitor all directives from the state authorities and adjust this plan if necessary.

Teachers will be available via email and will respond from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.  Feel free to ask questions regarding any material you do not understand. Teachers may be creating videos to help students understand the work they are being asked to complete.  Many free learning resources are becoming available, as we learn about these resources, we will share them with you.

We are also working on a schedule to provide lunches to all families. A meal schedule and plan will be sent out on Monday after menus and delivery methods have been determined.

As a district, we value face to face instruction and understand that it is typically the most effective way for most students to learn.  We are in an unprecedented situation and feel that providing instruction through e/home based learning will help keep students academically active as well as keep our school calendar intact.

Tuesday, March 17 through Friday, March 20 and Monday, March 30th, the offices in each building will be open from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. for phone calls.  We ask that you do not come to the school building without administrative permission. The district will be working on completing a thorough cleaning of each building and would like to limit any face to face interaction.

Finally, schools are currently scheduled to re-open on Tuesday, March 31, 2020 at 8:00 a.m.  If something changes prior to that date, we will communicate to you in a timely manner. Again, thank you for your patience as we make decisions that are best for student learning and our school district.

Please be safe and take care of each other,

Darryl Hogue
