From Clinton School Superintendent Gary DeLacy
Dear Clinton Community School District Parents, Students, Staff, and Community Members,
Upon discovery of the existence of substantial community spread of COVID-19 in the state, Governor Reynolds is recommending that Iowa schools close for four weeks.
“Based on new information today from the Iowa Department of Public Health, now is the time to move to the next level of response,” Gov. Reynolds stated. “I am now recommending that all Iowa schools close for a period of four weeks to help mitigate the spread of COVID-19.”
While I don’t have immediate details, there will be additional information coming from the Legislature and Governor’s Office regarding what this means for the remainder of the school year. As of right now, I can tell you that Clinton schools will be closed for four weeks which will bring our students back on Monday, April 13 at the earliest.
I am asking for patience and understanding in this unprecedented situation. We must treat this as seriously as the Governor and Iowa Department of Public Health are telling us.
Please let me know what questions you would have, and I will do my best to address them. I will continue to provide additional updates to everyone as I have them.
Sincerely,
Gary DeLacy, Superintendent

letter from Central DeWitt Superintendent Dan Peterson
Central DeWitt Parents, Students, Staff, and Community Members,
I have been following the news, speaking to area superintendents, and contacting state officials regarding COVID-19 for the past several days. I just received word from the Governor’s Office that Governor Reynolds is now recommending that schools close for four weeks to mitigate the spread of COVID-19. While I don’t have immediate details, there will be additional information coming from the Legislature and Governor’s Office regarding what this means for the remainder of the school year. As of right now, I can tell you that being closed for four weeks will bring our students back on Monday, April 13 at the earliest.
I am asking that all school staff report to school as normally scheduled tomorrow. I am also asking that parents and students come to the school, if and whenever it works for you tomorrow, to gather personal and school belongings, to help with custodial cleaning. After tomorrow, our schools will be locked for the duration of this school closing. We will have additional information avaiable, including business hours and contact information, tomorrow as well.
I am asking for patience and understanding in this unprecedented situation. We must treat this as seriously as State Officials are telling us it is. It is recommended that people not gather in groups of more than 50 people, so as students plan to come gather their belongings, please plan to do so and vacate the school. Our immediate and efficient handling of this situation may well be what helps all of us get back to school as quickly as possible.
Please let me know what questions you would have, and I will do my best to address them. I will continue to provide additional updates to everyone as I have them.
Sincerely,
Dr. Dan Peterson, Superintendent
