(official UW statement)
In the last few weeks, United Way of Clinton County, Iowa (UWCCI) started to receive calls for help from county programs that provide free student lunches. They were short of funds to continue providing lunches during this public health disaster. UWCCI stepped up and provided $6000 in emergency funding for the program and has decided to launch a COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund for the Clinton County area, to help provide a little extra to cover the shortfall and keep our local assistance agencies working for families in our community.
With lay-offs and closures, an increasing number of families are struggling, and even more so for ALICE families who are Asset Limited, Income Constrained, and Employed. Local non-profit agencies receive desperate calls from workers with young children who’ve lost their jobs and have no way to pay rent or buy food. Our local food pantries are doing what they can, but are expected to need additional funding in order to help our community get through this crisis. UWCCI invests around $370,000 annually in the local community non-profit agency programs to benefit disadvantaged families. Additional emergency funding is not in their budget.
UWCCI asks that if you can afford to make a contribution to the emergency fund for our neighbors in Clinton, Camanche, DeWitt and the surrounding areas, please do so urgently and generously today. Visit www.clintonunitedway.org and donate to the COVID-19 Emergency Response Fund.
United Way of Clinton County, Iowa brings together donors, volunteers, community leaders, experts, non-profits, and those in need. We’re in this together. United we fight, United we win.
