Camanche School officials are not ready yet to make a final determination of how school will be starting in the district.
Superintendent Tom Parker updated the school board at a special meeting Monday that with the Governor’s mandate that at least half the instruction be face-to-face in the classroom an on-line model is not feasible.
He says the staff has been working on a full regular schedule and a hybrid. Parker says the a full in class plan would be like what people are familiar with but with some adjustments for social distancing and cleaning. So, Parker says most of the time has been spent on a hybrid plan.
Parker says the hybrid plan the Camanche school leaders are developing would have the kindergarten thru 4th grade at school every day – and possibly using some space at the middle and high school buildings to allow for social distancing. He says grades 5 thru 12 would be on a two week rotation – with half of the students being in class Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday one week and online Thursday and Friday and the second week would be online the three days and in class two with other half following the reverse schedule. Over the two week period all students would be in the classroom five days.
Parker says everyone must be flexible…
Parker said they hoped the plan would also help address some day-care concerns for younger children. He says the plan allows the middle and high school to continue sharing some staff.
The Camanche Superintendent says the priority is to provide as safe as environment as possible with a quality education.
Parker said parents could still choose to use an on-line learning program and should contact the building principal for information.
Parker said the situation changes daily and he’s unsure what plan will be the best. But, he said on Monday he would lean towards the hybrid plan but is not ready to make the final decision.
The board and Parker agreed August 10th would be the target to make the announcement on how Camanche Schools will be starting on August 24t.
