Camanche Elementary teams sweep the Mississippi Bend AEA Sumdog Math contest

(submitted statement) – Camanche Elementary School swept the MIssissippi Bend Sumdog Math contest.  There were 39 teams from various eastern Iowa school districts participating.  Camanche Elementary’s Blue team earned first place and Camanche Elementary School’s Red team earned second place. The teams are composed of students in second, third or fourth grade.  In the Sumdog math contest, students answer 1000 math questions within a designated week.  The problems are at their mathematical skill level.  The students earn points based on the number of correct answers they have.    Owen Thomson earned first place by answering 992 questions correctly.  There were 153 students participating in the contest. Members of the Blue team are: Katelynn Burken, Emery Davis, Michaela Gendreau, Luke Gravert, Maci Hammond, Braydon Phillips, Gabrielle Sampson, Lakin Springer, Carsten Toler, Quinten Toppert, Miranda Tucker, and Kade Varner.  Members of the Red team are Elyna Clements, Claire Dunlay, Madison Goff, Cody Gravert, Landon Green, Sophia Johnson, Lily Laurion, Hayleigh Lorenzen, Wyatt Ohsann, Cameron Shaffer, Owen Thomson, and Addison Totten.  The Sumdog teams are coached by Sheryl Kennedy, Gifted Education teacher for Camanche Elementary Schools.
