September ended warmer and drier than normal.

Clinton Weather Observer Jim Blaess says the overall average temperature for the month was 70 degrees.  Blaess says that’s about 5 degrees above the normal of  65.1 degrees.  The weather observer says that makes last month the 4th warmest September in local weather records to 1879.  Blaess says the warmest September was 1931 with an overall temperature of 71.1.

He says the highest temperature was 91 on the 19th and one day with temperatures of 90 or above matches the average.  Blaess says the 89 degree reading on 27th tied the record for that date set in 1990.

The lowest reading was 43 on the 23rd.

Blaess reports precipitation for the month was about 8-tenths of an inch.  He says the normal is 2.95 inches.

Blaess says that’s the 10th driest September in records to 1978.  The Weather Observer says the driest September was 1979 with 13-hundreths of an inch.

Blaess says the ‘year-to-date’ precipitation is 21.35 inches which is about six inches below the average for the first nine months of the of 27.87 inches.

For October, Blaess says the average precipitation is 2.44 on inch and includes one-tenth of inch of snow.

Blaess says the average high on October 1st is 70 and average low is 47 and those drop to averages of 57 and 38 by the end of the month.
