Clinton City leaders visited federal officials about local projects during a trip to Washington D-C.
Iowa Senator Chuck Grassley met with Mayor Scott Maddasion, City Administrator Matt Brooke and City Engineer Jason Craft about the local issues.
Among the issues discussed were affordable housing, flood mitigation and specifically the grant that could help fund the rebuilding of Manufacturing Drive and Bluff Boulevard.
Grassley visited with the local news media after the Clinton visit.
Grassley noted that in the last cycle the project finished third in Iowa but two projects were funded.
The Republican Senator said he would support the Clinton project again – just like he has in the previous years. Grassley says the improvement would benefit the area.
Last cycle the two grants in Iowa went to projects in Des Moines and Corralville, but Grassley says he can’t say the larger cities are getting a larger share of the money adding he didn’t think size matters in these programs.
Grassley says the issue ‘earmarks’ where elected officials were picking projects to fund ended a decade ago and now it’s working with the bureaucracy.
Grassley says the infrastructure bills being considered in Congress would also benefit Iowa and Clinton.
The Clinton leaders also met with Iowa Senator Joni Ernst and Area Congressional Representative Marionette Miller-Meeks during the trip on Tuesday.
